A COMMUNITY IN MOURNING: TALACOGON WELCOMES HOME RENE CLERT BATERBONIA

A touching welcome was given to the late Ateneo student-athlete Rene Clert Baterbonia as his convoy passed through several towns on the way to his hometown in Talacogon, Agusan del Sur.

Crowds filled the streets to show their respect, love, and support for Rene. Many people stood along the roads, some holding banners and posters, while others took photos and videos as the convoy passed by. The warm welcome showed how deeply Rene touched the hearts of many, not only as an athlete but also as a source of pride for his community.

Supporters honored him with messages such as “Welcome Home Rene” and “You’re safe now here in Mindanao,” reflecting the love and grief of those who came to pay tribute.

The public viewing for Rene Clert Baterbonia will be held from June 17 to 23, 2026, at the Municipal Gym, San Agustin, Talacogon, Agusan del Sur.

Rene’s homecoming became an emotional moment for the people of Agusan del Sur, especially in Talacogon, where he will always be remembered as a proud son, a student-athlete, and an inspiration to many young Filipinos. 🫡🇵🇭🏀
