BRITISH INFLUENCER CALLS FOR “SENSITIVITY AND BALANCE” AFTER VICE GANDA REMARK

Social media influencer Malcolm Conlan has written an open letter to Vice Ganda following a recent It’s Showtime episode where a joke was made about the Senate being “under attack.”
In his post, Conlan said he understands that comedy often involves satire, exaggeration, and commentary on current events. However, he stressed that sensitivity and balance are important when the subject involves fear, confusion, and public safety.
Conlan said Senators Alan Peter Cayetano, Pia Cayetano, and others present may have reacted with alarm to what they believed was gunfire or a serious security threat inside the Senate premises. He noted that people in such situations may respond emotionally before all facts are known.
He also said the Senate is one of the country’s key democratic institutions, making jokes about possible threats within it a sensitive matter for some viewers.
Conlan clarified that his letter was not meant to attack comedy or freedom of expression, but to appeal for greater consideration when discussing issues involving public safety, fear, and trauma.
