CIDG PROBES POSSIBLE CRIMINAL LIABILITY IN DEATHS OF ATENEO PLAYERS RENE BATERBONIA AND DIVINE ADILI

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group is looking into possible criminal liability in the deaths of Ateneo de Manila University basketball players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili.
CIDG Director Maj. Gen. Robert Morico II said investigators are studying whether the case may involve homicide under Article 249 of the Revised Penal Code or a violation of the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing. Statements from players, witnesses, team staff, and other individuals involved in the activity are being gathered to help determine what happened and whether anyone should be held accountable.
The two student-athletes died during a team activity in Dipaculao, Aurora. Officials said all relevant angles, including possible negligence, are being reviewed before any decision on charges is made.
