FILIPINO AMERICAN MAN FACES 47 FELONY CHARGES IN FLORIDA

Filipino American Schubert Navarroza Macarat, 41, has been indicted on 47 felony charges in Florida in connection with an alleged child sexual abuse case. Prosecutors have filed notice that they intend to seek the death penalty if he is convicted under the state’s capital sexual battery law. The charges include 12 counts of capital sexual battery involving a child under 12, along with allegations of molestation, abuse of custodial authority, promoting a sexual performance by a child, and possession of child sexual abuse material.
Investigators said the case began after a child reported alleged long-term abuse in March 2026. Authorities also claim they recovered thousands of videos from a hard drive, including hundreds believed to contain illegal material. Macarat has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody without bond. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Florida’s 2023 law allowing the death penalty in certain child sexual battery cases is expected to face constitutional challenges because of a 2008 U.S. Supreme Court ruling limiting capital punishment when the victim did not die.
