MERALCO CLARIFIES: OTHER BILL FEES MANDATED BY GOVERNMENT

Meralco clarified that the “other charges” on electricity bills are government-mandated and applied to all power utilities, not just the company.

According to spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga, these include taxes and subsidies that are collected from consumers and remitted to government agencies. They also cover programs such as lifeline discounts for low-income households, senior citizen benefits, and contributions like the Feed-in Tariff Allowance (FIT-All) and Green Energy Auction Allowance, which support renewable energy projects.

The FIT-All helps fund renewable energy initiatives, while the green energy allowance supports solar, wind, and hydro projects. However, a consumer group has urged the Energy Regulatory Commission to review FIT-All collections, citing transparency concerns.
