PSA: ₱1,000 TODAY IS ONLY WORTH AROUND ₱730

The purchasing power of the Philippine peso has dropped to its lowest level since 2018, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reports. PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis Mapa said P1 in 2018 is now worth roughly 73 centavos, meaning P1,000 today only buys what P730 could in 2018.
Rising inflation, especially in essential goods and services, is driving the decline. PSA measures purchasing power relative to a base year (currently 2018) to track how much money can actually buy over time. With prices climbing, everyday expenses from groceries to transport are stretching the peso thinner than before.
