ROVELYN BATERBONIA REFUSES TO SELL SON RENE’S JERSEY DESPITE MILLION-PESO OFFERS

The mother of late Ateneo student-athlete Rene Baterbonia has firmly refused offers reaching millions of pesos for her son’s jersey, saying it holds priceless emotional value.
In an interview on Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, Rovelyn Baterbonia shared that several individuals had attempted to purchase the jersey worn by her son, who was known for his achievements in basketball and his rising career as a young athlete.
“Even if it’s millions, I won’t give it,” she said, explaining that the jersey represents her son’s hard work, milestones, and personal victories on the court. She added that many of Rene’s jerseys—especially those from MVP performances and championship moments—were previously given to her as treasured keepsakes.
Rene, who was set to play for Ateneo de Manila University after a successful high school career, was remembered as a promising talent in Philippine basketball. His mother’s decision reflects her desire to preserve his memory through the items he valued most during his life.
The Ateneo de Davao University has also honored his legacy by retiring his jersey number 2, ensuring that his contribution to the school’s basketball program will not be forgotten.
