TALACOGON HONORS LATE STUDENT-ATHLETE RENE CLERT “BOBET” BATERBONIA

TALACOGON, Agusan del Sur — The local government of Talacogon has declared June 8 of every year as “Rene Clert ‘Bobet’ N. Baterbonia Day” in honor of the late student-athlete’s life and legacy.
The declaration was announced during the final night of Baterbonia’s wake in his hometown. The measure recognizes his contributions to sports development, discipline, and community service, especially as an inspiration to young athletes in Talacogon and across Caraga.
Baterbonia, a promising basketball player from Talacogon, was remembered for his dedication on and off the court. Reports said he was a Palarong Pambansa standout and had been recruited to join the Ateneo Blue Eagles before his untimely death.
He died on June 8, 2026, together with teammate Divine Adili, following a drowning incident during a team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora, according to Ateneo de Manila University and news reports.
