₱14B REFUND TO MERALCO CUSTOMERS ORDERED BY ERC

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has ordered the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) to refund ₱14.17 billion to consumers, covering distribution charges collected from July 2022 to December 2024.
The refund follows the ERC’s review of Meralco’s approved rates versus its actual earnings, using its regulatory “true-up” mechanism to ensure fair billing.
To give faster relief to customers, the ERC shortened the refund period from 36 months to 12 months, increasing the monthly rate to ₱0.2511 per kWh. The refund will appear in electricity bills as a separate item labeled “AWAT (Refund)/Collect.”
The ERC said the move will help reduce electricity costs for households and businesses amid rising generation charges.
