ATENEO COACH TAB BALDWIN BREAKS SILENCE, ISSUES FIRST STATEMENT FOLLOWING DEATHS OF STUDENT-ATHLETES

Ateneo men’s basketball head coach Tab Baldwin has, for the first time, publicly addressed the tragic passing of student-athletes Chukwuemeka Divine Adili and Rene Clert Baterbonia, expressing deep sorrow and regret over the incident.
In his statement, Baldwin acknowledged the overwhelming grief felt across the Ateneo community, especially by the families, teammates, and close friends of Adili and Baterbonia, who are mourning their loss. He extended an apology to those who feel pain, disappointment, or emotional distress as a result of the tragedy, recognizing the weight of the situation on everyone involved.
He emphasized compassion and unity during this difficult period, urging the community to support one another as they process the loss of the two young athletes. Baldwin also expressed hope that, over time, those affected may find healing, strength, and a path toward peace.
The coach concluded his message with prayers for the families of Chukwuemeka Divine Adili and Rene Clert Baterbonia, as well as for their teammates and the wider community still coping with the loss.
