      EL NIÑO ALERT

      Section image

DOST-PAGASA has raised an El Niño Alert, warning of a high probability that the weather phenomenon may develop in the coming months.

In a statement dated April 22, PAGASA said there is a 79% chance that El Niño could emerge between June and August 2026 and may persist until early next year.

While the country is currently under ENSO-neutral conditions, the agency warned that El Niño could bring drier-than-normal weather, increasing the risk of drought and dry spells in several areas. However, some parts of the western Philippines may still experience above-normal rainfall during the southwest monsoon or “Habagat” season.

PAGASA said it will continue to closely monitor the situation and urged government agencies and the public to take necessary precautions to minimize possible impacts.
