      During a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said Mel Senen Sarmiento will take over from Carlito Galvez Jr.. She described the change as a natural next step in the country’s peace efforts, adding that it points to a shift toward civilian-led work focused on reconciliation, local governance, and reintegration.

      This comes after Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed Republic Act No. 12317, which schedules the first parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao on September 14, 2026. Those elected will serve a five-year term, marking an important step in advancing lasting peace in the region.
