XIAN GAZA URGES TRANSPARENCY FOLLOWING DEATHS OF ATENEO PLAYERS

Social media personality Christian Albert “Xian” Gaza has questioned Ateneo’s handling of the tragedy involving basketball players Divine Adili and Rene Baterbonia, who died during a team-building activity in Aurora.

In a Facebook post, Gaza said the university could address public concern by allowing the head coach or an official representative to explain what happened during a press conference. He argued that a clear public statement could help answer questions and reduce speculation surrounding the incident.

Gaza also criticized what he described as efforts to manage the issue quietly, including alleged restrictions on players and staff from speaking publicly. He claimed that, based on an account from one player, the activity took place despite unsafe beach conditions, including strong winds, big waves, and the reported absence of lifeguards near the area.

According to the alleged account shared by Gaza, several players were pulled away by strong waves, and rescue efforts were delayed due to limited emergency support nearby. He said the situation showed serious concerns about safety planning and risk management during the activity.

Gaza expressed sympathy for the families of the victims and said the school administration should be held accountable if safety measures were lacking. The post has since drawn online discussion about transparency, responsibility, and the need for stronger safety protocols in school-organized activities.
